Sandra L. Morgan
Sandra Morgan serves as a board member or advisor for several healthcare and MedTech start-ups. As an accomplished senior executive with 32 years of experience in healthcare, working for Fortune 100 companies including HCA Healthcare and Pfizer, she brings a wealth of knowledge and counsel to Laurel Road. Prior to retiring in 2021, Sandra served as the Senior Vice President of Provider Relations at HCA Healthcare. At HCA, Sandra built a world-class provider relations organization with record-high growth and physician engagement. Leading teams across multiple areas, Sandra achieved financial objectives by attracting and retaining non-employed physician customers while increasing engagement and fulfilling the company’s mission for the care and improvement of human life. Earlier in her career, Sandra worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 19 years, with her last role as Vice President for Pfizer’s US managed care business. Currently, Sandra is on the board of directors for the Nashville Zoo and is co-chairperson for the United Way Tocqueville Society in Nashville, Tennessee. She earned her BS in Business Administration from the University of Illinois and her MBA from St. Joseph’s University.
Rick Schlesinger
Carrying 30+ years’ experience as a consultant, executive, and investor across a variety of healthcare services, Rick Schlesinger serves as an advisor and/or board member for a mix of entrepreneurial healthcare companies and not-for-profit organizations. Rick was a Partner and Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company serving clients on a broad range of topics, including strategy, business performance, organization, and growth. Rick also worked as the Chief Marketing Officer and ran the Managed Care Operations for Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Rick was also a venture capitalist investing in healthcare service companies.
Dr. Chirag Shah
Chirag Shah is an anesthesiologist at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago. His focus is working on surgical procedures for veterans and implementing an acute pain program to reduce dependence on opioids. Chirag graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Chicago. He later went on to complete a regional/acute pain fellowship at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, Chirag worked as an investment banker for Piper Jaffray in New York City. Chirag participated in numerous initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, as well as debt offerings. Chirag earned a BA in Economics and a Minor in Business Development from Northwestern University. He resides in Chicago with his wife and two kids.
Lisa Shields
A visionary CEO with an engineering background, Lisa Shields is the founder and Executive Chair at FISPAN. She founded the company in 2016 after listening to the pain points that businesses experience utilizing bank services, Lisa now guides FISPAN with a focus on attracting the right talent and building great products. Lisa has led FISPAN to become the market leader in embedded treasury banking. Under her leadership, FISPAN partners with banks holding over $8 trillion in assets, including 10 of the top 40 banks in North America. FISPAN transmits billions of dollars in monthly payment volumes and powers the most innovative accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management services available today. Prior to founding FISPAN, Lisa founded and led Hyperwallet, a global payments company that was acquired by PayPal in 2018.
Neil Underwood
Neil Underwood currently serves as General Partner of Canapi Ventures, a strategic fintech venture fund, and as President of Live Oak Bancshares (LOB), the holding company of Live Oak Bank. While at the bank, he co-founded nCino (NCNO), a cloud-based bank operating system now serving over 1000 financial institutions globally. Through the venture arm of Live Oak, Underwood helped incubate companies focused on digital bank transformation, including Finxact, Payrailz, DefenseStorm and Greenlight. In 2017, he co-founded Apiture, a joint venture between Live Oak and First Data, serving as a cloud-native omni-channel onboarding and servicing platform. Underwood currently serves on the board of Live Oak Bank, Greenlight, Notarize, Defense Storm, Apiture, Payrailz, Posh and Able. Previous board or board observer seats include: Blend and Finxact. A native of Miami, FL, he holds a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Juan Uribe
Juan Uribe is a Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He leads the North American Retail Banking practice, is a member of the global Retail Banking Leadership team and serves as the Northeast regional lead for the broader Financial Institutions practice. During his time at BCG, Juan has made a lasting impression with clients by leading the build of a national direct bank, developing the strategy and design for the build of digital SMB bank, leading multiple E2E customer journey digital transformation programs across key customer needs, executing multiple enterprise-wide revenue and cost transformation programs, developing and implementing new branch operating models, and more. Juan began his consulting career at First Manhattan Consulting group where he focused on retail and banking technology strategy. Additionally, Juan spent five years as a public market investor with emphasis on the financial services industry. Juan received a BA in International Relations from Cornell, and an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.
Alyssa Schaefer
Alyssa serves as the General Manager and Chief Experience Officer of Laurel Road, a brand of KeyBank, and digital banking platform. In this role, Alyssa oversees all aspects of the business including Marketing, Operations, Risk, P&L Management, with particular attention to its digital products and customer experiences. Previously, Alyssa was the Chief Marketing Officer of Laurel Road. Upon joining in 2017, Alyssa rebranded the business and accelerated its growth in an increasingly competitive market. In 2019, Alyssa was a key driver of the successful acquisition by Key and helped lead the team through much change and opportunity. Prior to Laurel Road, Alyssa held several leadership positions at American Express, including the head of marketing for American Express Global Business Travel, the largest corporate travel business in the world. Alyssa’s passion for the business and the opportunity to better serve customers is often showcased in the media ranging from NBC News, Forbes and more. Alyssa earned her undergraduate degree from Michigan’s Ross School of Business and her MBA from Columbia University. Alyssa resides in New Jersey with her husband and two children.
